- Name: Jo McCann
- Credentials: NDMDI, BHSc, DMU(GenUS), PGDip(US)
- Specialty/Focus: Point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS) education, clinical sonography, and ultrasound capacity building in rural, family medicine, Pacific Island communities and underserved settings.
- Education/Training:Trained in New Zealand with over 20 years of experience, Jo holds postgraduate qualifications in ultrasound and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Ultrasound at the New Zealand Graduate School of Medicine(NZGSM). She is completing a Master of Health Sciences at the University of Waikato, with a focus on Point of Care Ultrasound curriculum development, work that directly informs the integration of ultrasound teaching at NZGSM.
- Professional Philosophy on Ultrasound: Ultrasound has the power to transform care, not just in well-resourced hospitals, but at the bedside of a rural clinic, in a community health clinic or on a remote Pacific island. Jo believes that ultrasound education should be practical, sustainable, and locally led, building lasting capacity rather than dependence. Central to her work is equity; ensuring that access to imaging is not determined by geography or resource level. That philosophy drives her clinical teaching, her international outreach work, and the frameworks she has developed to make ultrasound accessible to learners at every level.
- Personalisation: Outside of the university, Jo is a proud mum to her two daughters. She is deeply connected to communities across the Pacific where relationships, not just programmes, are at the heart of her volunteer work.
