The World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) establishes WFUMB Centers of Education (CoE) in countries worldwide where there is a need to meet the increasing demand for education and training in ultrasound and to assist with improving patient care.

WFUMB Center of Education is the name for an institution, which offers education regularly. It must be recommended by the ultrasound society of its country or region and recognized by WFUMB. A dedicated and responsible person is appointed as Director and oversees the COE. Changes to the Director shall be advised to WFUMB.

• The WFUMB CoE shall provide education in medical ultrasound for medical doctors, sonographers, fellows in training and students at least once a year
• They should grant recognition to participants after completion of courses with a certificate of attendance
• They should serve as a reference center for the region in which they are situated
• The educational activities of the center shall consist of workshops, courses or ultrasound conferences
• If international speakers are required the request should be made to the administrative manager of WFUMB to refer to the speaker list taking into account the topics and proximity to the course. This may be covered by the WFUMB visiting professor budget rather than from the CoE budget
• These activities should include lectures, live demonstrations, hands-on training, supervised training
• Use the CoE course evaluation form hosted on the WFUMB website to obtain feedback
• The CoE should offer educational material, consisting of ultrasound scientific papers, ultrasound books, ultrasound images and videos, demonstrative videos, online educational platforms, etc.
• The CoE should work with their national health authorities to provide accreditation for the courses
• The CoE shall advise WFUMB of courses in advance to promote on the website
• Encourage vendors to support the courses with ultrasound machines and finance
• The CoE shall provide a report to WFUMB at the end of the year on the year’s activities with images for inclusion on the website
• The Director or his/her representative shall attend the WFUMB congress for the CoE Directors’ Meeting using the available 2,000 USD CoE budget
• Requests for reimbursement (but excluding honorarium) shall be submitted promptly with receipts
• WFUMB provides the CoE with a logo for use by the Centre. The WFUMB logo shall only be used if the organisers have obtained prior approval from the WFUMB administrator to consult with the relevant Committee to endorse the programme and faculty.
