- Professional Philosophy on Ultrasound: Ultrasound is a fantastic tool in the hands of an internist who want to add certainty to the clinical diagnosis by performing bedside ultrasound immediately after history taking and clinical examination. Bedside scanning enables rapid ruling in/out of important diagnosis and paving the way for efficient work-up and treatment of patients. In gastroenterology, ultrasound plays a key role both in hepatology and diseases of the GI tract. Modern liver scanning now includes fat quantification and elastography for fibrosis evaluation making a one-stop-liver-shop possible. Scanning of bowels are rapidly evolving as a key method to diagnose, follow-up, and evaluate treatment response in IBD. Furthermore, motility and various dyspeptic patients can be assessed using ultrasound, also after meal provocation.
