- Title Professor
- Full Name Carmel Moran
- Credentials: BSc, MSc, PhD
- Specialty/Focus: I am a research ultrasound physicist and have expertise in the safety of ultrasound and in developing test objects to assess the imaging performance of new and emerging ultrasound technologies.
- Education/Training: BSc (Physics and Maths) Queen’s University Belfast, Ireland; MSc (Medical Physics) University of Aberdeen, UK; PhD Institute of Cancer Research, London, UK
- Professional Philosophy on Ultrasound: Ultrasound is widely considered a ‘safe’ diagnostic imaging technique. However with new and emerging ultrasound imaging technologies it is important to be able to quantify the amount of ultrasound that is emitted from the transducers and to highlight/determine the potential risk for damage. In addition it is important to ensure that ultrasound scanners are fit for purpose and that changes in imaging performance can be quantified and highlighted.
