- Specialty/Focus: Physics, Engineering, Signal Processing, Image Processing, and Bioeffects of ultrasound. Tissue characterization by temperature characteristics of sound velocity.
- Education/Training: Dr. Akiyama studied at Graduate School of Engineering, Keio University, Japan. He received Ph.D degree from Keio University.
- Professional Philosophy on Ultrasound: Dr. Akiyama believes the following: Ultrasound makes a very significant contribution to clinical diagnosis. It allows for real-time and safe observation of the affected area or lesion in the form of tomographic images at the bedside. Furthermore, mobile devices are increasingly being used in emergency situations, and its use is expanding to telemedicine and home healthcare. On the other hand, some technologies for quantitative diagnosis, such as elastography, are also becoming more widespread, in addition to image diagnosis.
- Personalisation: Dr. Akiyama is interested in playing the flute. He has given several solo concerts in Yokohama, primarily featuring classical music. Currently, he particularly enjoys the works of French composers such as Taffanel and Gaubert. He started practicing Tai Chi five years ago to maintain his health.
